Career

Agostina L. Martínez joined Allende & Brea as an associate in 2017.

Prior to joining Allende & Brea she worked as legal intern at Infra Shares Partners Limited (London, United Kingdom), as an associate at the Department of Mining at Marval, O’Farrell & Mairal (Buenos Aires, Argentina) and the International Energy Charter (Brussels, Belgium).  Additionally, she worked as Mining and Governance Content Assistant in the Extractive Industries Source Book, a project funded and sponsored by the World Bank.

She is actively conducting research in relation to the lithium industry in the lithium triangle, in partnership with the University of Denver and has published an article named “The importance of lithium for achieving a low-carbon future: overview of the lithium extraction in the ‘Lithium Triangle’” in the Journal of Energy & Natural Resources Law of the International Bar Association’s Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law. In 2022 she co-authored a chapter named “The important role of mining within the energy transition: the case of the lithium sector in Argentina” within the book “From Fossil Fuels to Low Carbon Energy Transition- New Regulatory Trends in Latin America” published by Palgrave Macmillan.  In 2024, she recently co-authored an article named “Exploring Resources in Extreme Cold Environment: The Antarctica Case: Feasibility or Fantasy” which was published by the Business Law International journal of the International Bar Association.

The principal focus of her practice is energy and natural resources, ESG matters and project finance related to these areas, daily assisting several mining companies (specially of the lithium sector) established in Argentina. For more than ten years she has been very active assisting mining companies that have established in Argentina and has actively participated in the very first project finance of IFC and IDB Invest for a lithium project structured as a super green loan (Sal de Vida financing during 2023).

She is a member of the Bar Association of the City of Buenos Aires, The Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law (formerly Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (RMMLF) and the International Bar Association (IBA). She attended several conferences organized by the IBA and the Foundation for Natural Resources and Energy Law (the most recent one: the Biennial Conference of the Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources and Infrastructure Law (SEERIL): A transformative era of action for the law and lawyers – implementing the energy transition and global sustainability held in Bogota in April 2024 and the International Mining and Energy Law, Development, and Investment Conference of the FNREL in Mexico in April 2023. She has also participated as invited lecturer in the Masters degree for Mining Management of the Universidad Católica de Cuyo in San Juan, Argentina.

 

Education

She obtained her law degree from “Universidad Católica de Cuyo” and holds a Master in Laws (LL.M) with Distinction in Mineral Law and Policy from the University of Dundee, Centre for Energy, Petroleum and Mineral Law and Policy (CEPMLP), Scotland, United Kingdom. In 2019, she attended the Course on International Oil & Gas Law, Contracts and Negotiations Part I and II organized by the Rocky Mountain Mineral Law Foundation (today the FNREL) and the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators (hosted in Houston, United States). In 2020, she obtained the postgraduate degree “Hydrocarbons and Energy Industry Regulation” from the Universidad Católica Argentina.
